One thing you are undoubtedly already aware of is that in order to be successful with a new website or any new business venture, you have to know your customer. Extensive target market research has to be completed, otherwise you could have created the best product or service, and have no one to sell it to. Using an SEO service is no different. You need to be able to think and act like your customer in order to offer them something that they may need.
The main goal of search engine optimization is to make your website as visible as possible, while increasing the number of targeted visitors to your site. The first step you need to take? Know your customers. Sit down and brainstorm with your target customers in mind. Ask yourself the following questions (and more!):
- What is the demographic of my customers?
- What is the age range of my customers?
- What do my customers do? For example, are they students, professionals, parents etc?
- What devices are my customers using to find me?
- What are they expecting from me?
- What search terms would they use to find me?
- What kind of advertising do they respond to?
- What type of customer am I looking to get – unhappy customers, repeat customers, new customers etc.
These are just a few of the questions that will get the ball rolling in your target customer brainstorming. In general, there are two main categories of people going on the internet, and your customers will fall into one of these two categories. The first is those customers who go online and are looking for information on this. They may be doing product research, or just research to learn more on a certain topic. Those customers use a wide variety of sites to get their information, ranging from social media to Wikipedia to the big search engines – Google, Bing and Yahoo. The second group of people are looking to buy something. They have done their research, whether it was online or not, and they are now ready to buy something. In general, these are the customers that you need to grab. Your SEO service should be targeted at them not the product research group because they are the customers that are going to make you the most money if you are selling a product or service.
Now that you know about your customers, you want to think about how your site can help them. Is it easy to navigate? Can my ideal customer find what they are looking for? Is the wording catchy for my target market? While an SEO service company can help you optimize your off-site SEO, you also want to keep in mind your on-page efforts as well. No matter how many customers you bring to your site, they will mean nothing if your page isn’t optimized to convert them to sales!
